The questions that come up most. If yours is not here, message me and ask.
Athletic therapy starts with an assessment of how you move. It is built for injuries: working out what failed, treating it, and then loading it back up until you can return to your activity. Massage therapy works directly on tissue to relieve pain and restore how a muscle behaves.
I hold both credentials, so a treatment can draw from both. If you are unsure which appointment to book, message me first.
No. Every session here is treatment focused. The goal is less pain and better movement, not an hour of quiet relaxation. Sessions can still feel comfortable, and I always work at a pressure you can breathe through. But if a spa-style experience is what you’re after, I’ll say honestly that’s not really my lane.
We start by going through your health history and what brought you in: what hurts, when it started, what makes it worse. Then a short assessment so treatment is aimed at the actual problem rather than the sore spot. Hands-on treatment happens in the same visit.
Massage therapy from a Registered Massage Therapist is covered by most extended health plans in Ontario, including Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Green Shield Canada, Desjardins, Blue Cross and OTIP.
Athletic therapy is covered by many of the same insurers, including Sun Life, Canada Life, Manulife, Green Shield Canada, Blue Cross and Desjardins. Whether your plan includes it depends on the level of coverage your employer has chosen, and some plans group it with physiotherapy as a shared benefit. Check your plan booklet or ask your insurer before you book, and look for “Athletic Therapy” by name.
I don’t direct bill. You pay at the end of the session and I give you a receipt to submit to your insurer for reimbursement. The details are in the practice policies.
Competitive or recreational athletes. Anybody with lower back pain that hasn’t improved with rest. People experiencing neck and shoulder pain from training or from sitting at a desk. Clients range from serious athletes to people who wouldn’t use that word for themselves. Activity level isn’t a deciding factor here. Having something specific to treat is.
